Marriage Registration

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION

India is a country where people value their traditions and customs the most which has made the process of joining two lives into one through marriage is considered to be sacred. But due to the increasing number of ill-treatment against married women, the Supreme Court of India in the year 2006 made it mandatory for every marriage to be registered and a copy of Registration Certificate must be obtained. Where the couple belongs to the community of Hindu, Buddhist, Jain or Sikh the Marriage Registration is governed by Hindu Marriage Act, whereas for couple belonging to any other community Special Marriage Act will be applied for the purpose of registration. The bride and the groom must attain 18 years and 21 years old respectively during the time of registration.
